Hi Vivian!

Q- What are you wearing today?
A- I’m wearing a jacket from Jacob and heels from Forever 21. My Fion purse comes from Twice Loved Sustainable Clothing Boutique.

Q- When/where would you wear this?
A- When I have Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Q- How would you describe your personal style?
A- I wouldn’t say I have a specific style. I love to experiment with different trends but I always try to incorporate a careless, effortless element to it.

Q- Who’s your favorite style icon?
A- Blake Lively

Q- What shopping secrets would you like to share?
A- To avoid overspending or buying items that I’ll never wear again, I always ask myself, “Can I live without this?” It works every time!

Q- If you were a super hero/villain, what super powers would you have?
A- The ability to read minds because you never know what people are thinking.

Q- What sound(s) do you most love to hear?
A- The smooth, mellifluous vocals of Joshua Radin or Justin Nozuka. If you haven’t heard their music, go listen to it now!

Thanks Vivian!

Vivian is very stylish. She attends fashion shows and writes for Stylust fashion magazine. What you can’t tell is she’s very camera shy. Also, it was an extremely cold afternoon. We shot a couple ideas then stopped in a coffee shop to warm-up. We repeated this process several times. By the end of the afternoon we had stopped in four coffee shops! The owners at Brioche (401 W. Cordova) were super kind. When we said it was our first time in their cafe they generously gave us a couple bite sized coconut macaroons! PS. I can’t guarantee they will do that for everyone… Think of it as a spontaneous act of karma.

Fridays are not the best day to roam the streets in search of fashionistas for the simple fact that most offices have Casual Friday dress codes. Add a drizzly, gloomy November day and the odds plummet even further.

Nonetheless I decided to turn south and walk along Burrard St. To my utter disbelief I stumbled on a photo shoot in progress. It felt a bit awkward taking photos during another photographer’s shoot but this was an opportunity too good to ignore. I kept a discrete distance, snapped a few photos and waited until the other photographer left before introducing myself to Keegan and her entourage. We were all surprised that I walked along when I did. The PR Manager simply asked me to wait until Keegan’s story ran before posting my photos.

Fast forward three weeks and Keegan has a nice write-up and a cover shot on the December 13 – 19 edition of WE (Westender, a weekly, local arts and entertainment newspaper). In the article Keegan is asked about her acting career, family and personal interests.

I encourage you to pick up a copy (from most downtown street corners) because there’s something unique about holding a 11×17 color image in your hands!

Darae’s outfit is a bit casual for SidewalkRunway. However, I liked the color combinations she selected. She’s a student and Vancouver’s ocean and mountains remind her of her home city.

Darae’s wearing:

Coat Le Shop (Korean)
Boots Rockport

I instinctively photographed the brightly colored outfit from across the street. When I introduced myself I was surprised by how young Sarah was. She said she marched in the Santa Claus parade for her dance academy. The next surprise came the following day as I was reviewing her images. She looked so worried. I imagined she was waiting for her parents to pick her up. Then after we met she looked so happy. It was an interesting encounter.

It was a dreary Monday afternoon. I met Penny and her girlfriend as they were headed to lunch. I learned she’s a Flight Attendant and a fashion blogger! No wonder she’s dressed like she stepped off the runway. She also mentioned she visits NYC frequently. I’m soooo jealous!

Jacket Zara
Blouse Urban Planet
Pants Forever 21
Purse Louis Vuitton
Heels Steve Madden

Annie and her girlfriend Ming wanted to see Skyfall, the new James Bond movie. Fortunately for me it was sold out because they stopped in Blenz where I was having coffee with my friend Paige. I liked how Annie matched her fuzzy purse and Fuzzy ankle boots. Then I noticed she matched the color of her boots with her blouse. Dressy/Casual yet nicely done. Her purse was a gift from her Aunt.

Annie’s wearing:

Necklace Hello Kitty
Blazer Ochily
Purses Prada

Inga and Anush Arshakyan Gallery

May, 13th, 2012

Sunday was the first time I heard Inga and Anush Arshakyan sing. They have amazing and powerful voices! A couple songs were sung acapella and the quick interchange and harmony between the two stylish sisters was remarkable. Other songs had a modern dance beat and left me wiggling in my seat! They performed at the Gateway Theatre in Richmond. I also discovered they represented Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest a year (or two) ago. I liked there music so much I bought their latest CD!

Ancient Greek Tragedy Gallery

May, 12th, 2012

Greece is prominently featured in the news each night. While I won’t delve into politics or the European Union debt crisis, I did remember photographing a Greek play in September. I never posted the photos but now is the perfect time.

I took a leisurely stroll after work. I passed Robson Square not realizing “Iphigenia in Tauris” was in progress. A number of people were sitting on the steps watching the outdoor performance. The ancient dialogue was challenging to understand but I was struck by the long flowing robes. Compared to today’s mass produced modern clothing it was interesting to imagine the craftsmanship required to make garments in 484 BC.
