Inga and Anush Arshakyan Gallery

May, 13th, 2012

Sunday was the first time I heard Inga and Anush Arshakyan sing. They have amazing and powerful voices! A couple songs were sung acapella and the quick interchange and harmony between the two stylish sisters was remarkable. Other songs had a modern dance beat and left me wiggling in my seat! They performed at the Gateway Theatre in Richmond. I also discovered they represented Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest a year (or two) ago. I liked there music so much I bought their latest CD!

Ancient Greek Tragedy Gallery

May, 12th, 2012

Greece is prominently featured in the news each night. While I won’t delve into politics or the European Union debt crisis, I did remember photographing a Greek play in September. I never posted the photos but now is the perfect time.

I took a leisurely stroll after work. I passed Robson Square not realizing “Iphigenia in Tauris” was in progress. A number of people were sitting on the steps watching the outdoor performance. The ancient dialogue was challenging to understand but I was struck by the long flowing robes. Compared to today’s mass produced modern clothing it was interesting to imagine the craftsmanship required to make garments in 484 BC.

Sidewalk Style, Royalty on Robson – Lolita Princesses Gallery

Oct, 8th, 2011

My jaw literally dropped when I saw Helena, Sharon and Tamie on Robson St. Their outfits were color coordinated and immaculate. They were hesitant to talk at first but relaxed once I gave them my business card. They explained that some people take their photo for the purpose of belittling them online. It’s hard to image why people would be so mean to three women so sweet.

They took great pride in sharing the details of their shoes, dresses, purses and coats. As I took their photo, others stopped to take their photos as well. We attracted enough attention people wondered if the trio were visiting movie stars. An elderly Canadian lady asked if they were headed to a special event. They said, “No, we simply like to dress-up.”

We said goodbye as the last traces of twilight gave way to the evening. It was a nice experience meeting three women that embody the definition of fashion.
