My Sidewalk Shoot With Julia

Jan, 31st, 2016

To plan our shoot Julia and I met at the Cou+uris+ popup shop on Robson St. Incidentally there’s a good chance they will close on or near Valentine’s Day. So hurry while they are still downtown.
When Julia arrived she was wearing a vintage orange leather jacket. It was a statement piece too hard to ignore. So we shifted gears and found a mustard yellow A-line skirt at Zara. The autumn color combination became the inspiration for her outfit. Everything fell into place when I found a pair of burgundy heels and blouse.
Julia enjoys modeling and she’s pursuing an acting career. She’s typically cast as the “girl next door” but welcomes the opportunity to play a strong female character.
Several of these images were featured in the Community section of the Asian Pacific Post newspaper.
I styled Julia’s outfit:
Jacket: Vintage
Blouse: Forever 21
Belt: Big Buddha
Skirt: Zara
Tan purse: Oliva + Joy
Boots: Steve Madden
Heels: Zara

JoJo, My Sidewalk Shoot With…

Sep, 6th, 2015

Hippy Chick Chic
I was speaking with my friend Myriam who confessed she was a hippy at heart. The idea began germinating and a hippy themed shoot was born!
Then panic set in. How could I recreate a look from 40 years ago? I started by making a list of vintage shops. I stopped in Aldo shoes and to my surprise I found the perfect pair of 5″ platform chunky heels.
On the day of the shoot JoJo and I stopped at Club Monaco, Zara and Forever 21. It was amazingly easy to find floppy hats, fringed items and wide legged jeans. It was apparent the 70’s look is in-style for the 2015 fall season.
JoJo’s outfit came from the following stores:
Black & Red Hats: Aldo Shoes
Sunglasses: Claire’s
Black & Red tops: Forever 21
Vest: Forever 21
Jeans: Forever 21
Purse: Zara
Heels: Aldo Shoes

Mina Khtaria, My Sidewalk Shoot With…

Sep, 6th, 2015

Mina celebrated her birthday earlier this week. Happy Birthday!
Within a few days she’ll be heading to India to audition for the Miss Universe India 2015 pageant.   Incidentally, organizers are permitting non-resident women of Indian heritage to compete this year.
To date, Mina’s local, national and international experience includes but is not limited to:

  • CFL Cheerleader for the BC Lions
  • Miss Asian Pacific Canada 2013 – Seoul, Korea
  • Miss Universe Canada 2014
  • World’s Next Top Model 2014

She views the opportunity as an honor to represent Indo-Canadian women. Mina wasn’t sure of how many other non-residents have been selected internationally. However, she told me organizers have picked 100 contestants by travelling to every state in India.
The September 20th audition  will select 20 contestants to vie for the title on the Miss Diva  reality TV show. Contestants will be presented with daily challenges and one woman will be eliminated each episode until Miss Universe India is crowned.
Lastly, Mina is 1st generation Indo-Canadian. She was born on Vancouver Island, travelled to India once before and she’s fluent in English, Punjabi and Hindi. She has a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Sociology from Kwantlen Polytechnic University. When invited to speak, she enjoys using her pageant platform to encourage young girls to pursue their dreams and passions alongside their careers.

Sidewalk Style – Week 27 With Jiamin

Jul, 4th, 2015

Jiamin was dripping with fashion!   I wish I had more time to capture the details of her snakeskin embossed skirt or her limited edition Hermes Birkin clutch. She was late for an appointment but I liked how she paired the color of her blouse with the nude color of her Rock Stud heels. The sparkles in her blouse also complemented her heels. Her bright orange clutch was a nice pop of color. Hopefully we’ll meet again!
Jiamin’s wearing:
Blouse: Forever 21
Skirt: An Australian brand… Vegan leather
Purse: Hermes Birkin
Heels: Valentino

Hangr Inspired Shoot With My Friend Nina

Feb, 15th, 2015

I met the COO of the Hangr a couple weeks ago. He described a new fashion app   for iOS and Android smartphones. It sounded unique so I’ll partner with their team in the near future.
Imagine for a moment you’re standing in front of the change room mirror and you’re not quite sure about the outfit you’re wearing. You’ve add a few accessories to see if that helps. The sales clerk is busy and you’re best friend has a completely different style. What would you do?
The team at Hangr has developed an app that helps answer the age old question of “How do I look?”   The app allows you to upload a selfie and receive feedback and inspiration from the Hangr community. The COO mentioned they were striving for a five minute response time. Secondly the app has a feature that lets you blur your face. This allows you to remain anonymous and avoid receiving ratings based on looks. Lastly, the app tallies and displays the number of likes and dislikes to help you make a decision. I’ve described the app’s basic functions but they plan to add additional features and partner with boutiques and bloggers as well. Visit for details.
Much love to the ladies at Mine & Yours Boutique at 1060 Hornby St. for granting Nina and myself exclusive use of their change rooms.

Sidewalk & Runway Style – Week 25 With Hailey

Jun, 21st, 2014

Hailey on the Sidewalk

Two weeks after photographing Hailey in the Romielle Fashion Show @ the Italian Day Festival, we randomly met on the “sidewalk”. She had just finished modeling for swimwear show. The runway was on a downtown Vancouver rooftop. With surrounding high rises she said it felt like 40 (C) or 104 (F)! Needless to say she wanted to slip into something light and comfortable for the walk home. Like myself, Hailey has a full-time office job and follows her passion on evenings & weekends.

Sidewalk Shoot – With Emily

May, 17th, 2014

Six Things I like about Emily!

When I first saw Emily, the word classy popped into mind. Her overall appearance reminded me of a Coco Chanel quote. The legendary fashion designer once said, “Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.” Aside from a nice smile and a warm personality here’s what I liked.

  1. Hid the typical bra silhouette by wearing a white one piece sports bra,
  2. Paired a short crop top blouse with a knee length pencil skirt,
  3. Wore two colors that emphasized her hair as a third color (i.e. a Pop of Color),
  4. Carried a uniquely designed purse,
  5. Wore a gold bracelet that match the gold buckles in her heels and
  6. Wore sexy yet comfortable heels.

Each element was subtle and understated but the combined effect was “Wow”! As we chatted I learned Emily recently graduated from a fashion design program and currently works as an Intern for a local designer.

Sidewalk Style – Week 18 With Anna

Apr, 27th, 2014

Anna’s outfit is a bit casual for SidewalkRunway but there are so many things to admire. First, I like how the pale yellow jacket complements her pale blue jeans. I like how she paired her tan purse with her tan flats. Then her artwork contains the same colors. All of which represents her home country.
Click Anna to see what she wore when we met in October.
