Chade Aubrey, My Sidewalk Shoot With…

Sep, 27th, 2015

Chade (pronounced Char-day) has modeled occasionally to help friends but she works as a Freelance Fashion Stylist.
For our shoot Chade chose to wear her ChicWish dress (for the first time). She said the floral print was bold but not too overpowering. It made her feel classy and feminine. She added that it reminded her of a 1950’s Hollywood garden party. I added a red structured purse as a finishing touch.

Chelsea’s Big Day Out

Stephanie describing the high tea menu.

Time passes so quickly. It’s mid-August and I interviewed and photographed Ultra Rich Asian Girl Chelsea Jiang in March. Click Mathematician, Model & Mommy to view her pregnancy shoot.
Fast forward to June and Chelsea gave birth to her first child. With her son at the age of 3-months we decided to reconnect. I started our conversation by asking if motherhood was what she expected. While she’s grateful for every precious moment with her son she was quite honest with her responses.

  • Q1 – Is motherhood what you expected?
CJ – No, it’s a lot harder and more emotional that I imagined. It’s a lot of tears and laughter.
Its attention and care 24×7 and it’s the hardest job in the world.
I’m within the first 100 days so my baby wakes up every two hour [night & day] for feedings.
My baby won’t latch on so I have to bottle my milk every three hours.

  • Q2 – What happened to bring the tears?
CJ – My baby was sick and I cried the entire day.

  • Q3 – What made you laugh/smile?
CJ – Every day is something new. He’ll make a new noise or make a new face.
He’s a serious baby and rarely smiles. So when he smiles it makes me smile.

  • Q4 – What’s the story behind your son’s name Charles?
CJ – I picked the name because it’s elegant and full of [English] history. And both our names start with [the syllable] CH.

  • Q5 – Your nanny seems really good with Charles, what’s her name?
    CJ – Coco

  • Q6 – Are you able to meet-up with other moms with newborns?
CJ – It’s hard because our babies are still so young. It’s a lot of work to go out.
We’ll be ready to leave then the baby will need his diaper changed. It’s really hard to make plans.

  • Q7 – I noticed all your house guests are all aunts and nieces. Do you have any nephews?
CJ – No, Charles is the first boy!

  • Q8 – You mentioned you’re an only child. Will Charles has a brother or sister?
CJ – Yes, Charles will have a brother or sister in the future.

Sidewalk Style – Week 27 With Asel

Jun, 28th, 2015

I’ve attended quite a few fashion shows in June but it was nice to roam the “sidewalk” with my camera. In doing so I met Asel. She was on her way to meet friends for dinner. She’s a recent Interior Design graduate and part-time model for PLY Management. I asked about her outfit and she was influenced by the warm weather. She decided to wear something delicate, light and breathable.  She chose her cream colored knit maxi dress. Her necklace was made by her friend Varya. She also had a light blue jean jacket in her purse to keep warm later in the evening.

Alecia Repp, Fearless Makeup
James Valiant, Suki’s

The final season 1 Ultra Rich Asian Girls episode appeared on You Tube just before Christmas. Since then cast member Chelsea Jung has gotten married and is expecting the birth of her first child. We first met briefly in October 2014 during the show’s first press conference. Click Press Conference to read my first interview with Chelsea.
With the drama and bling several months behind her we met at her suburban home in Richmond. Like most expectant moms she wanted photos to commemorate her pregnancy. She picked outfits that showed the elegant and comfortable sides of her personality.
To help with hair and make-up I contacted Suki’s Senior Stylist extraordinaire, James Valiant and “Fearless Makeup” Artist Alecia Repp. James was amazing. With the wave of his hand (and a little hairspray) he created unique hairstyles for each outfit. Alecia did a flawless make-up job that looked great under daylight and camera flash conditions.
After 90-minutes of pampering we were ready to shoot. Both James and Alecia stood by to assist with touch-ups. The morning flew by and by early afternoon we were saying our goodbyes. To give Chelsea a chance to rest I did her interview by phone later that evening.

  • Q01 – Looking back, what are your thoughts about the Ultra Rich Asian Girls series?
CJ- I thought the series would show the healthy lifestyles people lead in Vancouver. Instead it was more drama and less lifestyle.

  • Q02 – Towards the end of the series you became supportive of cast member CocoParis. Did your maternal instincts bring about this change?
CJ- The show wasn’t scripted and I was always supportive. It looked like I changed due to editing.

  • Q03 – How did your pregnancy affect the show?
CJ- I stopped drinking. People are quick to judge based on your appearance and clothes. I began to care less about those things. I also started thinking about saving money for my son, my family and my health.

  • Q04 – You moved comfortably from pose to pose earlier today. Have you modeled before?
CJ- No, I just took pictures with my family and friends. But Fazioli did use my picture for one of their ads.

  • Q05 – Who do you admire and why?
CJ- Victoria Beckham and Heidi Klum. They are moms and successful fashion entrepreneurs.

  • Q06 – In October you expressed a desire to start a clothing line. Is that still a goal on your horizon?
CJ- My line involved traveling to China to find a manufacturer. I stopped traveling and my focus is on my son and a career that can provide for my family.

  • Q07 – You graduated from UBC with a mathematics’ degree, how does that fit into your future?
CJ- I thought I would be an Accountant but my degree proved I had the potential to do what I want. So I don’t see any limits. I would like to get a Masters’ in business to see what options are available.

  • Q08 – On a personal note, do you have any brothers or sisters?
    CJ- No, just me.

  • Q09 – Where were you born?
CJ- I was born in Ottawa, but grew up in Beijing. I moved back to Ottawa at 14. I moved to Vancouver to attend UBC.

  • Q10 – In closing is there anything else you would like people to know about you?
CJ- I just want to be a good mom and support my family. I also want to lead a healthy lifestyle. Just because I’m pregnant I’m not going crazy with cake and ice cream. I’m active, I walk everyday and I have prenatal workouts twice a week.

Hangr Inspired Shoot With My Friend Nina

Feb, 15th, 2015

I met the COO of the Hangr a couple weeks ago. He described a new fashion app   for iOS and Android smartphones. It sounded unique so I’ll partner with their team in the near future.
Imagine for a moment you’re standing in front of the change room mirror and you’re not quite sure about the outfit you’re wearing. You’ve add a few accessories to see if that helps. The sales clerk is busy and you’re best friend has a completely different style. What would you do?
The team at Hangr has developed an app that helps answer the age old question of “How do I look?”   The app allows you to upload a selfie and receive feedback and inspiration from the Hangr community. The COO mentioned they were striving for a five minute response time. Secondly the app has a feature that lets you blur your face. This allows you to remain anonymous and avoid receiving ratings based on looks. Lastly, the app tallies and displays the number of likes and dislikes to help you make a decision. I’ve described the app’s basic functions but they plan to add additional features and partner with boutiques and bloggers as well. Visit for details.
Much love to the ladies at Mine & Yours Boutique at 1060 Hornby St. for granting Nina and myself exclusive use of their change rooms.

Sidewalk Style – Week 13 With Fiona

Mar, 23rd, 2014

When Fiona walked by I noticed her hat and sunglasses. She was walking quickly and wearing gold color sandals. It was a windy day and the breeze played with her skirt. As we began chatting she said she was meeting friends at Vancouver Fashion Week. However she had a few minutes for photos. As I was considering which street corner would work best for her photo, she asked if she should change into her heels…

Sidewalk Style – Week 12 With Amy

Mar, 19th, 2014

I almost missed Amy… She walked by wearing a knee length black coat. However there was something about the sheer skirt that peeked beneath the bottom of her coat that caught my attention. As we began chatting I realized she was hiding a very flattering dress. I asked what inspired her choice and she said Emily Dickinson. She had read a passage where white represented a powerful romantic color. As I took her photo her appearance reminded me of English royalty and her dress made me think of ancient Greece. Incidentally Amy is a university student in a technology field.
