Caroline is a bit casually dressed for SidewalkRunway but there was something about her knee high stockings and ponytail that attracted my attention. Her inspiration for her outfit was comfort. She was heading to work and chose flats because she would be standing for most of her shift. She’s wearing a “two color” outfit but each piece came from a different store.

Caroline’s wearing:

Jacket: Zara
Bag: Calvin Klein
Stockings: American Apparel
Shoes: Camper (bought in Paris)

Hangr Inspired Shoot With My Friend Nina

Feb, 15th, 2015

I met the COO of the Hangr a couple weeks ago. He described a new fashion app   for iOS and Android smartphones. It sounded unique so I’ll partner with their team in the near future.

Imagine for a moment you’re standing in front of the change room mirror and you’re not quite sure about the outfit you’re wearing. You’ve add a few accessories to see if that helps. The sales clerk is busy and you’re best friend has a completely different style. What would you do?

The team at Hangr has developed an app that helps answer the age old question of “How do I look?”   The app allows you to upload a selfie and receive feedback and inspiration from the Hangr community. The COO mentioned they were striving for a five minute response time. Secondly the app has a feature that lets you blur your face. This allows you to remain anonymous and avoid receiving ratings based on looks. Lastly, the app tallies and displays the number of likes and dislikes to help you make a decision. I’ve described the app’s basic functions but they plan to add additional features and partner with boutiques and bloggers as well. Visit www.hangrofficial.com for details.

Much love to the ladies at Mine & Yours Boutique at 1060 Hornby St. for granting Nina and myself exclusive use of their change rooms.

Anna’s outfit is a bit casual for SidewalkRunway but there are so many things to admire. First, I like how the pale yellow jacket complements her pale blue jeans. I like how she paired her tan purse with her tan flats. Then her artwork contains the same colors. All of which represents her home country.

Sara’s colorful turquoise blouse was the first thing I noticed. Coincidentally, she used her blouse as the starting point to create her outfit of the day. I liked how her skirt contained the same colors as her blouse AND flats. She bought her blouse and skirt in Istanbul and she bought her flats in the US.

Sara’s wearing:

Blouse Adil Isik
Skirt Adil Isik
Purse H&M
Flats Pink & Pepper

The first thing I noticed about Hanna was how her snow white dress sparkled in the noonday sun. I saw her at the start of lunch then coincidentally again at the end of lunch. I asked about her dress and I expected her say it was made by Alexander Wang or Top Shop but to my surprise she said she made it herself! I really liked the sexy simplicity of her creation.

Hanna’s wearing:
Flats H&M

Photographer’s notes:
As I was taking Hanna’s photo I had a pretty good feeling about the impromptu shoot. However when I looked at the images on my laptop I was amazed by the different mood and feeling created by the lighting and poses. Normally I try to pair an even number of photos to tell a story. However with so many unique images, I spent an hour cropping, assembling and rearranging images in various ways. When nothing worked, I finally I chose the presentation displayed above.

As I was visiting Jenny’s Haute Wheels fashion truck a nicely dressed woman and her boyfriend began browsing the racks. She stood out from the crowd of “casualistas” and was complemented by Jenny and Azura. As I began chatting with Grace she mentioned she’s a Fashion Merchandising student as well as a Fashion Blogger. Her blog is called the Fashion Narcissist.

We slipped away from the crowded street and took a few photos. Grace got her inspiration for today’s outfit from Vanessa Hudgens. From there she chose a bohemian look. She started with a pair of vintage floral print pants. She contrasted the loose fitting pants with a sung fitting bandeau top. She said the flats were an afterthought but they were perfect for lots of “Car Free Day” walking.

I personally like Grace’s outfit for all the little touches that tie everything together. For instance, her bracelet, ring, belt, flats and Marc by Marc Jacobs nameplate have gold as an accent color. And of course her top, belt pants and flats are predominately black.

Grace’s wearing:

Blouse C’est Moi
Belt & Pants Vintage
Purse Marc by Marc Jacobs
Flats Manolo Blahnik

It had been a few months but Ekaterina recognized me from Vancouver Fashion Week F/W 2013. She was enjoying the afternoon strolling around Robson St. when we met. I learned she’s currently attending classes. Her outfit is a bit casual for Sidewalk Runway but I liked the monochromatic aspect of her jacket, purse, pants and flats. Each piece had a slightly different shade of tan but the overall effect worked.

Jacket O’Live Hotstuff
Blouse & Pants ?
Purse Guess
Flats Aldo
