Sidewalk Shoot – My Friend Sahika

Mar, 8th, 2015

Today I enjoyed the thoughtful “touches” Sahika used to create her outfit. It was the perfect complement to the cherry blossoms in bloom: light and colorful. When we met her coral colored jeans caught my eye. She balanced it with a light tan trench coat and matching platform pumps. Her two toned purse matched both her coat and blouse. Her earrings fluttered with the slightest breeze. Then I realized the blue feathers of her earrings matched her blue fingernail polish. I also appreciated her minimalist approach for selecting one signature piece of jewelry (her ring). Her outfit also included a backpack which was hidden from view. She’s enrolled in an Event Management program. After we finished shooting she dashed off to assist her classmates with a group project.

How Does She Look2? – Jeannie Mai Inspired Sidewalk Shoot With My Friend Nao

Dec, 21st, 2013

This was the second time I photographed my friend Nao. She has a casual, comfortable style. Click Nao’s first make over to see what she wore last month.
Since I knew her dress size and height, I did most the shopping several days in advance.
My inspiration this time was a Guess by Marciano dress Nao said was really nice. I thought, “Mmmmmm, sounds like a photo shoot opportunity to me!” She laughed and I started piecing together her next outfit. I paired the dress with a camel color wool coat to pick up the nude bands in the dress. I searched in vain for a rust or burgundy colored beret and gloves but ultimately settled for black. We picked up the heels and stockings on the day of the shoot.
Special thanks to: 1) Local designer Cindy of for providing a stylish wool coat on short notice and 2) Jackie for a natural make-up touch-up at MAC Cosmetics on Robson St.

Sidewalk Shoot – My Friend Vivian

Only Heart… a Valentine’s Day Celebration

Hi Vivian!
Q- What are you wearing today?
A- I’m wearing a jacket from Bebe and heels from Nine West. My necklace and dress are from a boutique in Gastown. Oh and my clutch purse is from Calvin Klein.
Q- When/where would you wear this?
A- A girls’ night out or for any special occasion.
Q- How would you describe your personal style?
A- I wouldn’t say I have a specific style. I love to experiment with different trends but I always try to incorporate a careless, effortless element to it.
Q- Who’s your favorite style icon?
A- Blake Lively
Q- What shopping secrets would you like to share?
A- To avoid overspending or buying items that I’ll never wear again, I always ask myself, “Can I live without this?” It works every time!
Q- If you were a super hero/villain, what super powers would you have?
A- The ability to read minds because you never know what people are thinking.
Q- What sound(s) do you most love to hear?
A- The smooth, mellifluous vocals of Joshua Radin or Justin Nozuka. If you haven’t heard their music, go listen to it now!
Thanks Vivian!

This was my second planned shoot with Vivian. Click A Girly Girl in Gastown to view our first shoot. She’s still camera shy but our first shoot helped her to imagine the possibilties. Vivian loves the color red so when I saw cute red dress the idea of a romantic Valentine’s Day theme came to mind. Rather than shoot a traditional theme with flowers, chocolates and ballons I wanted to do an independent, treat yourself idea.
We started our day at 12:30 and finished at 5:30pm. It was a long day but Vivian managed to smile through the chilly weather and both venues. Special thanks to Modern Art Gallery on Robson St. and Water Street Cafe in Gastown for helping us complete our themed shoot.
